Wheelchair Accessibility Review in Halle (Saale) - Wheelmap Initiative Inspects Accessibility Spots

On September 16, 2025, the Volunteer Agency Halle (Saale) is hosting an event to raise awareness about the importance of accessibility for all individuals, regardless of their mobility status. The event, which takes place from 4 to 6:30 PM in Halle, aims to improve the accessibility of shops, restaurants, and public facilities in the city for wheelchair users.

The event, coordinated throughout the state, is part of the "Wheelmap Actions in Saxony-Anhalt" project, a state program for democracy, diversity, and openness in Saxony-Anhalt. The project is funded by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, and Equality of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.

Participants in the event will be divided into teams and will enter their results into Wheelmap, a worldwide online map that helps people with mobility impairments plan their day better by providing information about the accessibility of locations. The Wheelmap used during the event will be focused on the Reileck area.

The meeting point for the event is at 4 PM at "Haus und Hof", Bernburger Str. 14, 06108 Halle (Saale). Registration for the event is required and can be done via the website of the Volunteer Agency (www.freiwilligenagentur-halle.de), by phone at 0345 200 28 10, or by email at [email protected].

The event is open to the public and encourages participation from individuals or teams of two or three, regardless of their mobility status. Even a single step at the entrance can be an insurmountable obstacle for a wheelchair user, making it essential to test and improve the accessibility of public spaces.

Wheelmap is an online resource that provides valuable information for wheelchair users to plan their trips more efficiently. By using the map, wheelchair users can determine whether they can visit a location beforehand and plan their trips more efficiently. The event will help to expand the coverage of Wheelmap in the Halle area.

The "Wheelmap Actions in Saxony-Anhalt" project is part of a larger initiative to improve the accessibility of shops, restaurants, and public facilities in Halle for wheelchair users. By participating in the event, individuals can contribute to making Halle a more accessible city for all.
