Düsseldorf, Germany, is expanding its testing capabilities with a new drive-thru COVID-19 testing station at the Mitsubishi Electric Hall. The temporary test station, located at Siegburger Straße 15, aims to alleviate pressure on existing test centers and perform more tests in a shorter period.

Upon arrival, individuals are directed to one of three designated lanes, much like a drive-in fast-food restaurant. Each lane can accommodate 6 vehicles per hour, and all three lanes combined can test a total of 18 vehicles per hour. Approximately 10 minutes are allocated per vehicle and diagnosis at the test station.

The logistical and technical preparations for the COVID-19 test station were made by D.LIVE, the city's event subsidiary and hall operator.

Swabs are taken under tents or pavilions by appropriately trained staff, wearing protective equipment, to minimize contact and maintain social distancing. The driver does not have to exit their vehicle during the testing process.

After registration at a counter, much like at a doctor's office, and appointment verification, healthcare staff perform the test, often a nasal or throat swab, through the car window. Samples are labeled and sent to a lab for analysis.

Test results are communicated to individuals via phone, email, or a secure online portal, usually within 24 to 36 hours.

Employees from the health department, fire department, sports department, school administration, Düsseldorf Baths, and the company Special Security Services are deployed on-site at the test station to ensure a smooth and safe operation.

It is important to note that appointments for the test station can only be made via the Corona Information Hotline at 0211-8996090.

The temporary station at the Mitsubishi Electric Hall is a complement to the existing test center at Witzelstraße. This expansion is part of the city's ongoing efforts to increase testing capacity and combat the spread of COVID-19.
