Ural State Medical University Triumphs at Ural-Volga Orthodontics Olympiad

Ural State Medical University (UGMSU) has clinched the top spot in the inaugural Ural-Volga Orthodontics Olympiad, as announced by the university's press service. The competition involved first and second-year orthodontic residents from leading medical institutions across the Ural-Volga region.

Competing institutions included Bashkir State Medical University, Kazan State Medical University, Perm State Medical University named after Academician E.A. Wagner, Samara State Medical University, and UGMSU.

The on-site competition comprised two rounds: a quiz titled "Our Orthodontic Game" and practical tasks such as scanning the upper dental arch using an intraoral 3D scanner, fitting a bracket system on a model with archwire and additional elements, and bending a retainer and retraction loops on a model. The final round featured 13 residents selected from a "Best Clinical Case" competition. All participants displayed impressive theoretical and practical knowledge, impressively representing their respective universities.

The champion of the 1st Ural-Volga Orthodontics Olympiad was Milena Popova, a second-year resident from UGMSU, who showcased remarkable professional skills and expertise.

Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Olga Kovtun, Rector of UGMSU, praised the students' achievements, stating, "This victory underscores the high caliber of our students' training. We are immensely proud of our residents' accomplishments and believe that such success bolsters UGMSU's reputation as one of Russia's premier medical education centers."

Prior to this competition, UGMSU hosted a career fair for graduates from the Institute of Clinical Medicine.
