University Hospital Leipzig urgently seeks a blood donor.

The Leipzig University Hospital (UKL) is calling for blood donors during the summer months, as the demand for blood reserves increases due to an increase in outdoor activities and the resulting higher risk of accidents. This urgent appeal comes as the number of donors decreases during the summer season, putting pressure on the hospital's blood supply.

Every blood donation is crucial right now at UKL, as the demand for lifesaving blood products remains high. Donors can rest assured that they will be donating in comfortably air-conditioned rooms at the hospital.

If you are considering donating but unsure about your eligibility, the blood bank team is available by phone or on-site to assist. Current appointments and locations, including those outside the hospital, are regularly posted on the Instagram channel @ukl_blutbank.

Prof. Dr. Reinhard Henschler, Director of the Institute for Transfusion Medicine (ITM) at UKL, encourages people to donate blood before trips, as every donation counts and can directly support patient care.

Blood donations are essential for the optimal care of mothers and newborns in obstetrics, as well as for operations, transplants, treatment of seriously ill individuals, and various other medical purposes. It's important to note that blood is needed year-round, not just during specific seasons.

After donating blood, donors can enjoy a refreshing ice cream, including a vegan option, as a small token of appreciation. Until the end of July, those who donate and bring new donors can receive one of 500 limited-edition tote bags with the "Blood Bag" print.

Appointments can be made at short notice, and the blood bank can also be reached by email at [email protected]. It's important to remember that individuals must be at least 18 years old, weigh more than 50 kg, and feel healthy to donate blood. Don't forget to bring your ID when donating blood.

A shortage of blood can lead to emergency operations having to be postponed, highlighting the critical importance of each donation. The Leipzig University Hospital supplies patients daily who depend on blood products, making every donation a vital contribution to patient care.

All information and contact persons can be found online at www.blutbank-leipzig.de or by phone at (0341) 97-25393. So, if you are able, please consider donating blood and helping to ensure that lifesaving blood products remain available for patients.

Every donation at UKL, particularly during the summer months, is crucial for the lifesaving blood products needed in science, such as operations, transplants, and health-and-wellness treatments. Science, health-and-wellness, and patient care can all benefit from your donation at the blood bank of Leipzig University Hospital.
