In the heart of November, the special event "Our Safer City - Shaping Safe Workplaces" will take centre stage. This initiative, part of a larger movement, aims to foster a safer environment for all, particularly in the workplace.

The roots of Our Safer City can be traced back to November 2023, when the Prevent Violence against Women and Girls and Domestic Abuse consortium was launched by the City of London Crime Prevention Association. Since then, the consortium has been at the forefront of promoting safety and well-being in the City of London.

One of the consortium's most notable initiatives is Taxi Marshalling, which has supported over 9,300 solo female journeys during Thursday, Friday, and Saturday late evenings in the city. This service has provided safe travel options for countless individuals, helping to ensure peace of mind during their commute.

The impact of Taxi Marshalling has been significant, with over 31,566 journeys facilitated at Liverpool Street, carrying 57,295 passengers, more than half of whom were women in the city.

Activities during the "16 Days of Action" will focus on raising awareness and providing practical, accessible training. This campaign will see the collaboration of the City of London Police, City of London Corporation, Solace, and EIDA, among others in the city.

In addition to the "16 Days of Action", Our Safer City will also participate in the international campaign this autumn. The survey link for the Our Safer City survey is available for those who wish to contribute their experiences and insights in the city.

The consortium's efforts extend beyond the streets, as they have conducted three surveys to understand the experiences of women and girls in the City of London. Feedback from these surveys has led to initiatives like Taxi Marshalling and Safe Havens in the city.

Looking ahead, Our Safer City has planned a training series in partnership with The Skills Network and Solace. This series will cover topics such as consent, workplace harassment, and domestic abuse awareness in the city.

A significant fundraising event this summer was the CSSC Fundraising Dinner at 1 Lombard Street, supporting Our Safer City and Cross-sector Safety & Security Communications (CSSC) in the city. While the name of the person who opened the event is not publicly available, the event was a resounding success in raising funds for the cause in the city.

Finally, a House of Lords roundtable discussion is also scheduled, further underscoring the importance of the issues Our Safer City addresses in the city. The full programme for the upcoming training sessions and events will be launched on the Our Safer City website and LinkedIn page in the city.

As November approaches, the City of London continues to shape safer workplaces and communities, one step at a time, with Our Safer City leading the way in the city.
