Unacceptable behavior: Preschool aide dismissed for restraining young child with ties
In a recent development, VINCI Kindergarten Alexandria North has terminated the employment of a preschool teacher's assistant following an incident where the assistant was accused of tying up a 21-month-old student using a blanket. The incident, which took place last month, was captured on surveillance video. However, it's important to note that there was no evidence of abuse or harm to the child by the employee. The employee in question, a four-year employee at the kindergarten, claimed that she did not tie the blanket strongly around the child. Dr. Dan Yan, the Founding Principal of VINCI Schools, stated that while there may be gray areas in child care, regulations and rules must be followed regardless of feelings. The employee was fired for violating the policy that prohibits restraint, unless it is to prevent a child from hurting themselves or others. The teacher who did not intervene during the incident was written up and counseled to report incidents, even if uncertain. The Virginia Department of Social Services visited the location after the kindergarten reported the incident to the state licensing office and child protective services. Following an investigation, child protective services determined there was no malicious intent and that the child was not harmed. The school sent an email to families stating that child protective services did not pursue charges against the employee. Acacia Komelasky, an Alexandria resident, expressed her disapproval of the incident, stating, "As a former teacher myself, that should never happen." Despite the dismissal, it's worth noting that the employee was beloved by many parents. Staff were required to complete additional training to ensure compliance with the school's policies and regulations. Unfortunately, the identity of the teacher or teaching assistant dismissed last month from VINCI Kindergarten Alexandria North remains undisclosed to the public. The school has not released any further statements regarding the incident.
