Ulm Pioneers Firefighter Mental Health Research with PULS Study

Ulm's Fire Department, the German Trauma Foundation, and the University Hospital Ulm have joined forces to pioneer a research project focusing on firefighters' mental health. The initiative, named the PULS study, was launched at the Ulm Fire Equipment House and is led by Prof. Dr. Michael Andruszkow.

The project aims to develop evidence-based strategies to help firefighters cope with trauma-related stress and maintain their operational fitness in the long term. Professor Harald Gundel, 2nd Vice President and Medical Director of the Ulm University Clinic for Psychosomatics, is involved in the project, bringing his expertise to the table.

Mayor Martin Ansbacher stressed the importance of effective concepts to prevent mental strain on firefighters, highlighting the need for such initiatives. The PULS study was officially presented at the Ulm Fire Department, marking a significant step towards addressing this critical issue.

The PULS study, launched at the Ulm Fire Equipment House, seeks to develop scientifically based preventive measures to support firefighters' mental health. With Professor Gundel's involvement and Mayor Ansbacher's backing, the project aims to ensure firefighters can process trauma-related stress effectively and maintain their operational capability.
