Recall of KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen Due to Safety Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for the KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen (model number 53411) due to serious strangulation and asphyxia hazards. The recall was prompted by a tragic incident in February 2023, where a 23-month-old child died in Oregon after his clothing got caught on a hook on the play kitchen, preventing him from freeing himself.

Approximately 192,000 units of the play kitchen were sold online at KidKraft.com, Amazon, and Walmart from 2018 through July 2025, with prices ranging from $120 to $270. Although KidKraft, Inc. filed for bankruptcy in May 2024, the brand was acquired by Backyard Kids, LLC, which has voluntarily recalled all affected units and agreed to provide free replacement hooks to consumers.

The recall affects play kitchens sold in the United States and a small number in Canada. Parents and caregivers are urged to stop using the KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen immediately and contact Backyard Kids for replacement parts. Contact methods include phone (800-882-0234), email ([email protected]), or the recall webpage at KidKraft.com.

No other injuries beyond the reported fatality have been noted in connection with this recall. The CPSC continues to monitor reports related to toy safety and urges the public to report any concerns.

Play kitchens are a common item in many homes and childcare centers, promoting creativity and motor skill development. However, the incident serves as a reminder that product testing must continue even after an item hits the market to uncover hidden dangers.

The KidKraft Farm to Table Model play kitchen is a popular choice for many families, but its original accessory hooks pose a risk of injury or death. By replacing these hooks with safer alternatives, families can ensure the safety of their children while still enjoying the benefits of a play kitchen.
