Swiss Couple's Decades-Long Commitment to Vietnam's Healthcare Sector Honoured

A heartfelt visit was made by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the Savary family in Vevey, Switzerland, on July 28, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to express gratitude and deep appreciation for the significant contributions made by Jacques Savary, a Swiss biomedical engineer, and his wife Mic, a nurse, to the healthcare sector in Can Tho city, Vietnam.

The Savarys' journey began in 1995 when they volunteered with the Vietnam Medical Aids (VMA) Foundation, bringing their professional expertise and modern medical equipment to local hospitals in Can Tho. Their efforts were focused on improving the quality of healthcare services for the residents of the Mekong Delta region, which was still developing at the time.

Between 1995 and 2002, the couple provided professional support and access to modern medical equipment to hospitals such as Can Tho General Hospital, Can Tho Children's Hospital, and Vi Thanh Hospital. Their dedication led to a significant improvement in the healthcare sector in Can Tho city.

Despite their return to Switzerland in 2002 due to health reasons, the Savarys' bond and sense of responsibility towards Vietnam endured. The VMA Foundation, a Swiss nonprofit organization, continued to support the healthcare sector in Can Tho and other Mekong Delta localities after Savary's departure.
