Swarms of hornets inflict painful stings on over twenty backpackers in the wilderness

In a startling incident, over 20 hikers were attacked and stung by hornets in the Annweiler Forest, particularly in the Trifels hiking area. The Forestry Office has confirmed the presence of one hornet nest in the forest, which was found near the Windhof and Aumühle parking lots.

In response to this incident, the Forestry Office has taken immediate action to ensure the safety of hikers. The hiking trail around the nest has been closed off, and a 100-meter radius around the nest is off-limits to new hikers.

The person leading the Annweiler Forestry Office, Axel Henke, has been at the forefront of these decisions, but there is no specific information about who ordered the closure of the hiking trail around the hornet's nest.

The attack has been severe, with one hiker losing consciousness due to an allergic reaction. Three ambulances were dispatched to transport people with breathing and circulatory problems to the hospital.

Firefighters with mountain rescue equipment had to carry an unconscious hiker down a steep section of the forest. This incident underscores the need for caution when venturing into the forest, and hikers are advised to check the latest updates from the Annweiler Forestry Office before planning their hikes.

The police in Annweiler have issued a press release about the hornet attack, and more information about the situation can be found from the Annweiler Forestry Office. They are taking measures to ensure the safety of hikers in the area, and their closure of the area may help prevent further hornet attacks.

This incident serves as a reminder to always be prepared and aware when hiking, and to follow the guidelines and updates provided by the authorities. Stay safe and enjoy the beautiful Annweiler Forest!
