Diakonie Bethanien's Pflegeoase: A Special Care Facility for People with Advanced Dementia in Solingen
In the heart of Solingen, a city in Germany, Diakonie Bethanien has established a unique facility called the Pflegeoase. This special facility is designed specifically for people with advanced dementia.
The Pflegeoase, located in the dementia-specialized senior center 'Haus Eiche' in Aufderhöhe, offers round-the-clock care, nursing, and companionship to seven residents. The 180 square meter room is divided into individual living spaces using room dividers, each featuring biographical elements to create a personal and intimate environment for each resident.
Staff at the Pflegeoase are specially trained and work closely together to ensure the residents receive the care they need. They aim to cater to the residents' needs for society and activity in a quiet atmosphere, allowing them to observe, hear, and see fellow residents and staff from their beds.
Diakonie Bethanien has gained significant expertise in the field of dementia over the years and aims to make its experiences and knowledge available within the network. As part of this effort, they have built an inter-facility competence team with specially trained dementia tutors to facilitate the internal exchange of knowledge and experience on the topic of dementia in all of its facilities.
The Pflegeoase is not just a care facility; it's also a part of Diakonie Bethanien's commitment to supporting the local community. They are a project partner in the 'Local Alliance,' an initiative aimed at establishing a local network that offers practical support and a space for mutual exchange on the topic of dementia.
The kick-off event for the 'Local Alliance for People with Dementia in Solingen' project will take place on Monday at the Multigenerational House on Mevlüde-Genc-Platz in Solingen. All interested parties, including those affected and their relatives, are invited to attend, and admission is free.

Natalie Schaffert, Regional Manager for Elderly Care in Solingen and member of the extended management of Diakonie Bethanien, emphasizes the importance of creating cross-provider support services for people with dementia and their relatives in Solingen.
The Pflegeoase is more than just a care facility; it's a testament to Diakonie Bethanien's commitment to providing compassionate, specialized care for those with advanced dementia, and a step towards creating a more supportive community for all those affected by this condition.
