Hear This, Folks! Trump's Got Your Back on Social Security

Steve Forbes, the editor-in-chief, dropped a bombshell on 'The Bottom Line' about President Trump's initiatives to safeguard Social Security.

Social Security Recipients, brace yourselves for a minor hiccup this May as your payments will arrive a little later due to a strange anomaly in the Social Security Administration's (SSA) payment schedule and the 2025 calendar.

The SSA generally sets beneficiaries' payment dates based on their birthdays. Recipients born between the 1st and 10th of the month get their checks on the second Wednesday of the month, while those between the 11th and 20th receive theirs on the third Wednesday, and folks born after the 20th get theirs on the fourth Wednesday.

This May, due to the 2025 calendar's quirk, the second Wednesday and the first round of payments fell on May 14—the latest possible date for any month on the 2025 calendar.

Don't fret, there are other months with later dates for the initial benefit payments, which fell on the 12th of February and will fall on the 13th of August and 12th of November.

Here's a fun fact, Social Security recipients who started receiving benefits before May 1997 or are receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) have benefits paid on different dates, with Social Security on the 3rd of the month and SSI on the 1st.

April's Social Security payouts may be chunkier for some retirees!

Remember, delayed Social Security payments should be reported to the SSA, while beneficiaries should touch base with their financial institution beforehand.

Now, for those also receiving SSI, you'll get two payments in May. This month's benefit was paid on May 1, while the payment for June will be distributed on May 30 since June 1 falls on a weekend this year.

The SSA suggests reaching out to your bank or financial institution if you haven't received your electronic payments on the scheduled date, as there might be a delay.

Insight: The staggered payment dates are a strategic move by the SSA to manage the massive volume of payments efficiently, reduce system overload, and ensure timely disbursements while preserving the total annual payment amount.

Electronic payments are available, and if you haven't received your money on the due date, contact your banking institution. Keep a tab on your payment schedule as some months may have earlier or later dates for initial benefit distribution due to weekends or holidays.
