Hottest Job Markets in Russia as of April, Uncovered

According to a study by the online job platform, hh.ru, doctors, janitors, and salespeople emerged as the most in-demand specialists in Russia during the mentioned timeframe.

Here's the lowdown on these hard-to-fill positions: For every doctor's vacancy, a mere 1.3 resumes were floating around. A similar trend was observed for janitors, with 1.4 applicants for every opening. Salespeople and cashiers followed closely with 1.5 candidates each. And get this - turners and milling machine operators, cooks and bakers, and pharmacists-providers were also in high demand, with 1.7, 1.7, and 1.8 applicants per vacancy respectively, as per TASS.

To put it into perspective, indices between 2 and 3.9 point toward scarcity of candidates, while numbers below 1.9 indicate an extreme scarcity. With that in mind, it's safe to say these positions are on fire in the Russian job market.

Despite this, the study showed that 20 additional roles were in short supply, such as merchandisers (2.3 resumes per vacancy), fitters and plumbers (2.4), nurses (2.5), and chief doctors and department heads (2.5).

Experts argue that competition for jobs in Russia is moderate, with 5.6 active resumes per vacancy on average. However, the situation varies significantly across specialties and regions.

It seems the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug is facing the toughest staffing predicament, with labor shortages also popping up in Leningrad, Tula, Kurgan, and Vladimir regions, Khabarovsk Krai, and Rяazan Oblast. On a brighter note, the situation has improved in all these regions compared to the start of the year.

In the Russian job market of 2025, careers in science, such as pharmacists, are experiencing an uneven shortage, with 1.8 applicants per vacancy according to TASS. The medical-conditions sector also faces a shortage, with 2.5 applicants for every nursing position.

The resumes for certain business roles, like merchandisers and chief doctors, are also in short supply, with 2.3 and 2.5 applicants per vacancy, respectively. Furthermore, education-and-self-development roles exhibit this trend, with 2.5 applicants for every department head position.

In stark contrast, the situation is quite the opposite for finance, as the study reveals an abundance of applicants for financial roles in Russia, with a high number of resumes exceeding the available vacancies.

Interestingly, regions like Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Leningrad, Tula, Kurgan, and Vladimir, Khabarovsk Krai, and Rяazan Oblast are facing tough labor shortages, indicative of a demand-supply imbalance in these areas.

Despite this challenging scenario in certain regions, the overall competition for jobs in Russia is moderate, with an average of 5.6 active resumes per vacancy as per the study.
