Saudi Arabia's MOH Wins Global Award for Fighting Obesity and NCDs

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health (MOH) has been recognised globally for its outstanding efforts in combating obesity and noncommunicable diseases. The Kingdom has won the 2025 UN Inter-Agency Task Force Award, with the World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledging the MOH's significant strides.

The MOH's success can be attributed to various community initiatives. The Healthy Cities Program and Walk 30 campaign engaged over 1 million citizens, promoting healthier lifestyles. This commitment to world health has led to Jeddah and Madinah becoming the first cities in the Middle East with populations over 2 million to receive WHO Healthy City accreditation.

The MOH has also made significant strides in digital health. The Seha Virtual Hospital, linked to over 200 hospitals across the Kingdom, uses advanced AI solutions. It's the world's largest online medical initiative. The MOH's Sehhaty app was also instrumental in the award win.

Policy changes have played a crucial role. The MOH implemented a sugar-sweetened beverage tax and eliminated industrial trans fats. A ministerial committee for Health in All Policies was established to ensure health considerations are integrated into all government policies.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health has demonstrated a comprehensive approach to improving world health. Through community engagement, digital innovation, and policy reform, the Kingdom has earned international recognition. The 2025 UN Inter-Agency Task Force Award is a testament to the MOH's dedication and success in addressing obesity and noncommunicable diseases.
