Pinhal Novo Clinic Under Fire for Ultrasound Errors: Baby Born with Severe Malformations

Tania Correia's recent experience at Pinhal Novo clinic has raised serious concerns. Despite reassurances from staff, her baby was born with severe malformations, and an incorrect Down syndrome risk assessment led to a missed abortion deadline at the clinic.

Tania trusted the clinic for her ultrasounds, as it was the only NHS provider in the area. However, her new obstetrician suspected issues with the clinic's ultrasound reports. The fetus's dimensions didn't match the written reports, suggesting potential errors. The clinic, meanwhile, has faced multiple allegations of wrong diagnoses. Eight complaints have been lodged with the Health Regulatory Entity since 2023.

The clinic missed severe malformations in a baby born with an incomplete leg and only two toes. They also failed to detect a risk of abortion in Tania's baby, Leonor. The mother found out after the legal abortion deadline had passed. Despite technological advances, the clinic claims some malformations may remain undetectable. They also stated they have no power to oversee the ultrasounds done.

Pinhal Novo clinic is under scrutiny for potential ultrasound errors. Tania's case, along with others, has led to eight complaints this year. The clinic has reserved its response to the Public Ministry. While Leonor was born healthy, the missed Down syndrome risk assessment highlights the gravity of the situation.
