Rescue Operation Successfully Saves Unconscious Teenager in Sierra de Mariola

In a daring rescue operation, firefighters from the Provincial Consortium of Alicante successfully saved a 16-year-old teenager who had collapsed and lost consciousness while climbing Torre del Aguiló in Villajoyosa.

The climber was stuck halfway up the wall, making it as dangerous to continue climbing as it was to go down. A helicopter was quickly mobilized for the rescue, and the helicopter pilot's skill was crucial in navigating the challenging terrain and urgent conditions.

The rescue team, which included a doctor, descended to attend to the teenager's medical needs. The climber was immobilized with a vacuum cushion and placed on a stretcher, which was lifted up to the helicopter using a crane. The helicopter then transferred the teenager to a sports track in Alfafara, where she was transferred to SAMU (Emergency Medical Services).

The operation took place between Alfafara and Mariola Camping, and the rescue team returned by land due to the operation being so close to the limit and the difficulties of access due to the orography. The helicopter used in the operation was V-990 of the Provincial Consortium.

Apart from the rescue helicopter, the mountain rescue group GER, a salvation van FSV, and several effectives from the park of Cocentaina participated in the operation. The GERA group and forest coordinator of the Consortium, along with a forest fire-fighting unit of the Generalitat, also played a role in the Valencia rescues.

In a separate incident, firefighters rescued three other individuals in the province of Valencia. A 65-year-old cyclist with a leg injury was extracted, along with two people in their mid-20s who had become disoriented while hiking in a ravine. The two hikers were extracted by air and transferred to medical services in a safe zone in Buñol.

Despite extensive searches, no verifiable information could be found about a restaurant favored by José Luis Fernández, the leader of the rescue operation, in Sierra de Alicante. However, Sierra de Mariola is known for its delicious cuisine, with popular dishes including paella, rabbit stew, and snails cooked in garlic and parsley. If you're planning a visit to the area, be sure to try some of the local delicacies!

Art and science played significant roles in the successful rescue of the teenager. The doctor on the rescue team provided vital medical attention, ensuring the teenager's health-and-wellness was secured during the operation. Meanwhile, the helicopter pilot demonstrated exceptional skills in navigating the challenging terrain, showcasing the application of science in such critical situations.
