Partnership set to advance cancer treatment for Vietnamese female patients
In a significant stride towards improving women's health, the Administration of Maternal and Children's Affairs under the Ministry of Health signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Roche Vietnam on July 22, 2025 [1]. This partnership, aimed at enhancing the prevention, early detection, and treatment of breast and cervical cancer, marks a significant milestone in the joint efforts to build and complete the National Action Plan.
The National Action Plan for Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Control in Vietnam focuses on these cancers as major public health concerns in the country, where over 12,500 deaths annually are attributed to these cancers [2]. The plan's objectives include developing and disseminating evidence-based clinical guidelines for breast cancer screening, implementing pilot programs to test the practical applicability of the guidelines and screening program, and ensuring timely and equitable access to breast and cervical cancer prevention and treatment services for all Vietnamese women.
Roche Pharma Vietnam, a dedicated partner since 2013, has been instrumental in improving breast cancer early detection and access to innovative therapies. The company, led by General Manager Lennor Carrillo, is contributing its global and regional expertise to the National Action Plan [1].
In addition to the breast cancer focus, Roche is committed to supporting the elimination of cervical cancer in Vietnam. The collaboration is working towards developing a comprehensive, evidence-based National Action Plan designed to support long-term improvements in public health and contribute to broader social outcomes.
The signing ceremony was held amidst the celebration of Roche Pharma Vietnam's 30-year anniversary. According to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Tri Thuc, the government has rolled out two major strategies aimed at improving public health, with cancer prevention and control being a key component [3].
Roche's commitment extends beyond the pharmaceutical realm, as the company aims to empower women through innovative diagnostic solutions for breast cancer. The collaboration will focus on supporting the development and dissemination of the National Action Plan for Breast Cancer, including the formulation of evidence-based clinical guidelines for breast cancer screening.
The National Action Plan is in the development and early implementation phase from mid-2025 onward, starting with pilot programs, with plans to scale nationwide after evaluation of pilot results [1]. This initiative represents a structured, evidence-based approach to significantly reduce the burden of breast and cervical cancer in Vietnam through improved prevention, early diagnosis, and standardized treatment protocols within the healthcare system.
According to the comprehensive global cancer dataset GLOBOCAN 2022, breast cancer is the foremost malignancy among the female population both globally and within Vietnam. Roche, with its unwavering belief that science, combined with strong partnerships and sustained investment in health systems, can drive real-world impact and improve women's health across Vietnam, is poised to play a crucial role in this endeavour.
