Integration Support Prize 2024 Honours Diverse Contributions in Neuss

The city of Neuss, Germany, celebrated its commitment to a diverse, solidarity-based, and forward-thinking society on July 8, 2025, with the Integration Support Prize 2024. The event, held in the Pauline-Sels Hall of the RomaNEum, recognised exceptional individuals and organisations for their contributions to participation, diversity, and lived integration.

Holger Lachmann, the Deputy Mayor for Citizen Service, Security, and Social Affairs, opened the event and introduced the musical artist Hozan Cane, who would later captivate the audience with an emotional performance.

Among the honourees was Birgit Axler-Cohnitz, an artist and trainer for anti-racism, who realised a project about identity, origin, and racism experiences in the German-Philippine diaspora with the autobiographical short film "ugat - Another postmigrant story".

Boxring Neuss 1992 e.V. was also recognised for its community space that promotes sporting activities, daily respect, mindfulness, and integration. Cemal Tuna, as chairman of the Alevitic community centre, received praise for his coordination of the "Bridge Builder on the Furth" project, which fosters understanding between people with and without migration history.

Eva-Maria Noack was awarded the 2nd prize for her volunteer work supporting refugees and migrants in Neuss since 2011. The Integration Guides of the city of Neuss received the 3rd prize for their project that has existed since 2009, helping newcomers integrate into the city society.

Barbara Simon and Elsbeth Dünnwald received the 1st prize for their ten-year-long volunteer work supporting children from refugee families at a transitional living facility. Quirinus-Gymnasium e.V. association was also honoured for its projects promoting cross-generational education, inter-culturality, and social participation.

Ferhat Canikli, a volunteer musician, brings people together through music at the Alevitic community centre. Hozan Cane, a Kurdish-German singer, human rights activist, and author, was another notable honouree who used his musical talent to inspire and unite.

After the official program, Hozan Cane performed another musical piece, and the event transitioned into an open reception for personal exchange and networking. The awards were presented by the head of the Integration Office, Michelle Wells, who made personal remarks about each project's significance.

The honourees serve as role models for what integration means in practice, inspiring others to forge new paths and continue shaping the future actively.
