Moving to Harz region proves fateful for a couple!
**ASB-Wish Vehicle Lower Saxony Helps Felix Realize His Dream**
In a heartwarming display of compassion and determination, the ASB-Wish Vehicle (ASB-WÜNSCHEWAGEN) of Lower Saxony helped Felix, a resident of Bad Harzburg, fulfill his cherished dream of seeing his home from above.
Felix, who is battling a severe lung disease, found it challenging to see his home from a bird's eye view due to his health condition. However, this did not deter him or his wife, Jutta, who moved to Bad Harzburg a year and a half ago, hoping for a fresh start. Life, unfortunately, took an unexpected turn for them.
Despite the rainy weather, Felix, accompanied by Jutta, their daughter, hospice companion Wolfram, two friends, and wish granters Sandra and Christina, embarked on a journey to conquer the approximately 483-meter-high castle hill by cable car. Felix, who needed plenty of oxygen, could not sit for long and tired quickly, but his spirit remained undeterred.
The ASB-Wish Vehicle, a sharing platform managed by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB), a non-profit emergency response and social services organization in Germany, stepped in to help. The association wrote an emotional post about the couple's determination on their Facebook page, sharing their story with the wider community.
The outing was a great success for Felix and his family. After a snack at the inn and a walk, the group returned to the valley, having finally fulfilled Felix's dream of seeing Bad Harzburg from above.
The ASB-Wish Vehicle program is designed to fulfill last wishes for people at the end of their lives, providing them with meaningful experiences at a time when mobility and health are severely limited. The process involves several key steps, including identification and referral, assessment and feasibility, planning and coordination, wish fulfillment, and aftercare and reflection.
The ASB-Wish Vehicle Lower Saxony's actions demonstrate the organization's commitment to dignity, joy, and personal fulfillment, even at life's end. By granting last wishes, the program creates positive psychological moments for recipients and their families, often providing closure or a sense of completion.
The service is provided free of charge and relies on donations, sponsorships, and volunteer engagement. While the ASB-Wish Vehicle is among Germany’s most recognized wish-fulfillment initiatives for the terminally ill, it is part of a broader ecosystem of similar charities that exist across the country. The ASB’s history of social commitment and its collaborative approach with local communities and professionals make it a trusted partner in compassionate end-of-life care.
