Expert Visit Praises Advanced Cardiovascular Care in Sverdlovsk Region

Specialists from federal health authorities recently concluded a working visit to Yekaterinburg, commending the region's healthcare institutions, specifically the Sverdlovsk Regional Oncological Dispensary and Sverdlovsk Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1, for their exemplary medical care in treating cardiovascular and multiple chronic diseases.

During their stay, the delegation discussed the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases within the Ural Federal District as part of the national project "Healthy Longevity."

Tatiana Savinova, the Deputy Governor and Minister of Health in the Sverdlovsk region, commented on the region's well-established system of specialized and high-tech medical care for individuals suffering from circulatory system diseases. Thirteen medical organizations in the region operate round-the-clock departments utilizing cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment techniques, focusing on patients with acute coronary syndrome and acute cerebrovascular accidents. Furthermore, cardiovascular centers specializing in cardiology and neurology, as well as six telemedicine centers for remote areas, have been established in the region.

The implementation of these measures has led to a decrease in mortality due to cardiovascular diseases since 2020: cases of myocardial infarction have dropped by 17.1%, ischemic heart disease by 13.2%, and stroke by 10.52%. Specialist operations, including coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve interventions, and implantation of cardiac pacemakers, are among the modern techniques used at Sverdlovsk Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1 and the Ural Institute of Cardiology.

Alexander Bykov, the chief out-of-staff cardiologist of the regional health ministry and the head of the cardiology department of SOKB No. 1, highlighted that the introduction of the new ambulatory care order for adult residents since September 1, 2022, has reduced the risks of premature mortality from chronic non-infectious diseases, such as circulatory system diseases, with 92.5% of patients in the priority group seeking medical attention.

From 2019 to 2024, the Sverdlovsk region acquired and put into operation more than 2 billion rubles worth of modern medical equipment for healthcare institutions, including 15 CT scanners, one MRI machine, and eight angiographic systems, as part of the federal project "Fight against Cardiovascular Diseases."

In the past, Sverdlovsk doctors shared their experiences in creating a telemedicine department with colleagues in Belarus. The Sverdlovsk region is part of ongoing digital transformation programs for healthcare, including the Center of Digital Transformation of Health Care, which aims to integrate digital solutions such as electronic health records, teleconsultation networks, and AI-driven diagnostic support systems.

Enhanced diagnostic tools, telemedicine initiatives, innovative biomarkers, and research methods are being implemented to further improve cardiovascular care in the Sverdlovsk region. These developments aim to expand access, enhance outcomes, and increase the efficiency of healthcare delivery for local residents.
