Lake Werder, a popular recreational spot on the north shore, has recently faced a new challenge. The aquatic plant, water hyacinth, has been causing swimming hazards, leading to a series of measures to ensure safety.

The German Lifesaving Association (DLRG), which operates a lifeguard station on the north shore of Lake Werder, has issued a warning. They cannot guarantee the safety of bathers outside the designated bathing area due to the presence of the water hyacinth.

Starting this weekend, all forms of swimming and water sports outside the bathing area on Lake Werder will be officially prohibited. This ban is a measure to prevent entanglement and potential distress for swimmers and boaters. The water hyacinth can wrap around boat propellers, potentially preventing rescue boats from reaching people in distress.

Experienced swimmers can also get entangled in the water hyacinth, potentially causing distress. Police and fire department rescue personnel may be unable to assist in situations where the water hyacinth has wrapped around boat propellers.

Swimming is recommended only within the red buoy line on the north shore of Lake Werder. It's important to note that the ban on swimming and water sports outside the bathing area is a new development and does not apply to the designated bathing area.

Canoeing, rowing, inflatable boats, and stand-up paddleboarding are already strongly discouraged on Lake Werder, but as of now, there are no publicly available indications of any new or specific restrictions or bans on these types of watercraft starting this weekend.

The water hyacinth has recently been removed from the designated bathing area on the north shore of Lake Werder. The DLRG, however, continues to urge caution and adherence to the safety guidelines.

For official and up-to-date confirmation, contacting the local municipality or water authority managing Lake Werder directly would be advisable. It's crucial to stay informed and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on Lake Werder.

In light of the water hyacinth issue, it's advisable to practice health-and-wellness activities like environmental-science and fitness-and-exercise at land-based sites around Lake Werder as swimming and water sports are temporarily restricted. The safety measures taken include a ban on all forms of water activities outside the designated bathing area.
