Major Event Simulation 2025: Essential Facts You Should Be Aware Of

Mexico City is set to conduct its second National Drill of 2025 on Friday at noon. The drill will involve a series of hypothetical scenarios designed to test the city's response to emergencies, particularly earthquakes.

As part of the preparations, a Seismic Alert will be activated in 27,887 speakers located across Mexico City. This alert will sound on posts along the city's streets, as well as being broadcast through cell phones.

The Seismic Emergency Plan protocol will be activated in response to the hypothetical earthquake scenario during the National Drill. The plan, which outlines the steps to be taken in the event of a real earthquake, includes alerting responders, coordinating rescue or evacuation actions, and activating warning systems to inform the public or specific personnel.

In the event of a nationwide alarm test, such as Mexico's Warntag, a warning signal will be issued via sirens, mobile phones, and broadcast media. This will be followed by an all-clear signal about 45 minutes later to mark the end of the test.

To ensure you receive the alert on your cell phone, iOS device users should check their Configuration > Notifications > Government Alerts settings, while Android users should go to Settings > Notifications > Wireless Emergency Alerts and activate the feature. The alert can be received even when the cell phone is locked or on silent and without credit.

The alert will also sound on cell phones with cell broadcast technology. This technology allows alerts to be sent directly to cell phones, even when they are not connected to the internet.

The National Drill will include participation from various emergency bodies in Mexico City, with all emergency bodies taking part in the hypothetical scenarios. The scenarios will take place at two locations: Paseo de la Reforma and Avenida Juárez, and Reforma 222.

The hypothetical scenario for the National Drill is a magnitude 8.1 earthquake located in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán. The C5 cameras will be used for an initial damage assessment during the drill.

Five Condors helicopters of the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) will be in flight during the drill, providing aerial support for the emergency response efforts.

At 12:01, following the conclusion of the drill, the Seismic Emergency Plan protocol will be activated in a real-world test. This will allow authorities to assess the effectiveness of the plan and identify any areas for improvement.

The National Drill serves as an important reminder for residents of Mexico City to be prepared for emergencies. By participating in the drill and testing the Seismic Emergency Plan, authorities can ensure that they are ready to respond effectively in the event of a real earthquake.
