In 2024, 25 lives were lost to the inescapable embrace of the waters, down from 28 unfortunate souls the previous year.
In 2024, some 5,855 blood-and-guts, adrenaline-surfing members were ready and waiting to keep an eye out for folks in distress near the waters. Together, they logged in a mind-boggling 187,787 hours under the scorching sun, rescuing 2,211 of their fellow humans.
Across Germany, the DLRG came to the aid of 1,446 hapless victims in 2024 - a remarkable surge from the 1,120 in 2023. And get this - over half of those rescued last year (699 folks) were saved from the clutches of the dastardly deep, dropping from 870 in the previous year. However, the heroic lifeguards were unable to save at least 411 creatures from a water-y grave in 2024.
