KazNMU Marks Milestones With Alzheimer's Disease School
The Department of Neurology at KazNMU is marking significant milestones with educational events. Celebrating the university's 95th anniversary and the 90th commemoration of Professor S.K. Kaishibaev, the department hosted the 'Dementia School', aiming to enhance physicians' competency in diagnosing, treating, and preventing dementia.
The 'Dementia School', supported by Egis, comprised a series of lectures held on July 10, July 22, and August 22. A neurologist and assistant professor presented on modern diagnostic tools and clinical approaches to cognitive disorders. The keynote lecture covered global and national prevalence data, causes, risk factors, and innovative strategies for early diagnosis and treatment of dementia.
The school aimed to elevate participating physicians' understanding of modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods for dementia and access to internationally recognized clinical scales and protocols. It stressed the importance of an interdisciplinary approach and early identification of cognitive impairments for improving patient outcomes. Future plans include expanding training formats, integrating digital learning tools, and fostering partnerships with international experts. The events are part of the Ministry of Health's Roadmap for Improving Neurological Medical Care for the Adult Population for 2025-2027, focusing on enhanced dementia care and neurological expertise.
The 'Dementia School' has enhanced participating physicians' understanding of modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods for dementia. It has also introduced psychological and social support for families of patients living with dementia through the Kazakhstan Alzheimer's and Dementia Alliance. The department's future plans aim to further elevate the competency of physicians in diagnosing, treating, and preventing dementia.
