July Folkfest in Düsseldorf: Unveiling Novelties at the Rheinkirmes Event
Düsseldorf's Rheinkirmes Gears Up for a Thrilling Return
The city's handed over the Oberkasseler Wiesen, and now it's the shooters' turn to work their magic. The countdown for the popular Rheinkirmes is on! From July 11 to 20, prepare for a ten-day extravaganza west of the Rhine.
A Month Till the Fair Begins
The Düsseldorf St. Sebastianus shooters 1316 are all revved up, with shooter chief Andreas-Paul Stieber leading the charge: "The excitement for the Rheinkirmes is building!" Each day, the family fair expands, marking the start of a monumental logistical and organizational challenge. But as Stieber puts it, "The challenges fade into the background when we see the smiles on guests' faces."
Follow Düsseldorf on Instagram for updates! The first showmen will soon arrive, with the first material container already on-site. However, much more is yet to be transported to the Rhine by the fair's July 11 opening. Over 300 showmen and catering businesses are expected, with nearly 1,000 applications received. The Rheinkirmes' success makes the shooters' jobs tougher, as they carefully select who gets a spot at this prestigious event.
Innovations and Traditions Galore
As always, old favorites and novel surprises will dot the 2025 Rheinkirmes landscape. Thrill-seekers can look forward to the "Journey to Hell 2.0" and the overturning carousel "Top Spin Fresh." The latter, ruled by Frank Decker and Elisabeth Schaak, debuted in 1993 and makes 40 revelers dizzy at a time after its fresh makeover.
A new rollercoaster, the "Rock&Roll Rollercoaster," and the chilling "Devil Rock" stand among other enticing attractions designed to get hearts racing. For those seeking a more refined experience, a "Weinzelt" (wine tent) will make its debut, providing an elegant setting to savor wine and gourmet fare.
Apart from these innovations, traditional highlights like the historic procession, target shooting competition, and the dizzying array of rides and food stalls promise something for everyone. This year's edition skillfully weaves fresh experiences with beloved traditions.

Drone Shows, Fireworks, and Music
While the fair boat won't sail this year, stunning sights await in the form of a drone show and fireworks displays. On July 12 and 18, 1,000 drones will light up the skies in a mesmerizing performance by AO Drones. The fireworks show will illuminate the second Friday. And let's not forget the electrifying "Pink Monday" on July 14, featuring live music from 17:00.
Stay tuned for the Kuhl un de Gaeng, Swinging Funfares, and Bring performances on July 11. Admission is free – but not for nothing! On July 12, the Höhner will take the stage, with tickets available for €14.90.
Comparing Folk Festivals
Despite popular opinion, Munich's Oktoberfest is not the world's largest folk festival. Running much longer than the Rheinkirmes, Oktoberfest draws around 6.5 to 7 million visitors, but with more opening days, the visitor numbers are somewhat leveled. Herne's Cranger Kirmes, however, brings in approximately 470,000 visitors per day, making it the largest folk festival in terms of attendance capacity. Fans of Oktoberfest need not worry, though, as both NRW's Düsseldorf and Herne host some of the most impressive folk festivals in Germany.
