Increase in alcohol production by 12% contrasted with a reduction in consumption by 10% observed in Kuban region.

There's been a twist in the alcoholic beverage market of Kuban this year, as the consumption of strong drinks dropped by 10% from January to May 2025. But, surprisingly, production increased by 12%. Instead of their usual tipple, folks in the Krasnodar Krai region are opting for funky new options like cider, perry, and mead.

This shift in preference has resulted in a significant drop in the sales of sparkling wines and ordinary beer, which amounted to only 129 million liters in profit - a decrease from 2024. Meanwhile, 14.6 million liters more of strong drinks were sold during the previous year.

Experts suggest that the reduction in strong drink consumption can be attributed to the growing demand for low-alcoholic beverages. These drinks are believed to have less impact on the body compared to their stronger counterparts and don't leave that awkward post-drinking feeling the next day.

Intriguingly, Russia's overall alcohol consumption has seen a decline from 24.7 to 22.2 liters per year. It seems like Russia, like other parts of the world, is slowly warming up to the idea of moderation in alcohol consumption.
