Health official Brigitte Joggerst takes charge in Karlsruhe's health department

Dr. Brigitte Joggerst, a renowned public health expert, has been appointed as the new head of the Public Health Office in Karlsruhe. The announcement was made by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs.

Dr. Joggerst, who has been a competent office manager for Enzkreis and the city of Pforzheim, will be succeeding Dr. Peter Friebel, who retired in June. Her new position will commence on October 1st.

Bastian Rosenau, district administrator of Enzkreis, expressed regret at Dr. Joggerst's departure but congratulated the district of Karlsruhe on her appointment. He acknowledged her significant contributions to Enzkreis and Pforzheim, stating, "There is much to thank her for, and she has guided us well through the Corona pandemic."

Dr. Joggerst's academic journey began in Freiburg, where she studied human medicine. After her doctorate, she completed a master's degree in New Jersey, USA. She has also passed specialist exams in internal medicine and public health.

Throughout her career, Dr. Joggerst has focused on prevention, children's and youth health, the fight against the shortage of specialists, and digitization. Her areas of expertise also include epidemiology, community health promotion, and the development of preventive health strategies.

Her research on infectious diseases, health communication, and improving healthcare delivery systems has been widely recognised. She has also emphasised the importance of strengthening public health infrastructure and policies to better respond to health crises.

The Public Health Office in Karlsruhe, the largest in Baden-Württemberg with 160 employees, is responsible for both the district and the city of Karlsruhe. Dr. Schnaudigel, district administrator of Karlsruhe, expressed confidence in Dr. Joggerst's competence, stating, "I am convinced that Dr. Joggerst will continue to work with the same dedication and commitment in Karlsruhe as she has done in Enzkreis and Pforzheim."

Dr. Joggerst has maintained good relationships with the medical profession and clinics, and she played a significant role in the medical control group. Her focus on health prevention aligns well with the profile of the Public Health Office in Karlsruhe.

As she prepares to take on her new role, the city of Karlsruhe looks forward to the positive impact that Dr. Brigitte Joggerst will bring to public health.
