Healing Dance Session Offers Solace and Peace at Primus Super Speciality Hospital

In a unique initiative, Shambhavi Sharma's Nrityaamrit brings the ancient art of Kuchipudi dance into hospitals, care homes, and community spaces, transforming these clinical environments into spaces of emotional healing, stress relief, and cultural connection.

On August 2, 2025, at Primus Super Speciality Hospital, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, Shambhavi conducted a dance therapy session under the guidance of Padma Bhushan awardees Shri Raja and Radha Reddy. The session aimed to explore the therapeutic possibilities of classical dance in clinical settings.

The Kuchipudi performance, choreographed with therapeutic intent, had a profound impact on the patients and attendants. Smt. Teena, a patient, reported feeling tense and in pain before the session, but after watching the performance, she felt her pain ease away and became more relaxed. Smt. Tanya, another patient, expressed the need for more such sessions to be held at the hospital, as they offer a deep sense of relief.

The session fostered not just cultural connection but also emotional well-being. Patients and attendants were drawn into the meditative rhythm and expressive storytelling of the performance, creating a calming influence that alleviated discomfort and promoted overall well-being.

Nrityaamrit's integration of classical Kuchipudi dance into clinical settings is part of a growing effort to integrate traditional art forms into holistic care models. Benefits observed include reduced patient anxiety and enhanced emotional well-being, demonstrating that classical dance can be a complementary approach in healthcare.
