Group unite: collaborative efforts among members
The annual Düsseldorf clean-up event, Dreck-weg-Tag, is set to take place on June 12, 2021, from 10 am to 1 pm. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event will follow distance and hygiene regulations.
With the material distribution centers providing trash bags and gloves, all students will have the opportunity to participate in the "regular" Dreck-weg-Tag. Registration can be done via the official website www.dreck-weg-tag.de.
The material distribution centers for Dreck-weg-Tag 2021 will be located at Oberkasseler Rheinwiesen, exit Oberkasseler Bridge, Schützenplatz in Garath, Frankfurter Straße 323, and Am Draap 17. Participants can collect materials at these central locations during the event hours, while those wishing to pick up materials at other locations within the city are encouraged to do so before the Dreck-weg-Tag event during the week before at Am Draap 17.
The necessity to organize a clean-up has become even greater due to the increased waste generated by COVID-19, as AWISTA CEO Jörg Müller pointed out, with used masks and packaging waste, especially around 'to go' businesses, becoming a significant problem.
However, the actions for kindergartens and schools have been cancelled for the Dreck-weg-Tag. The event organisers, Pro Düsseldorf, have found solutions for a distance and hygiene concept to address material costs.
The event organisers are optimistic about the Dreck-weg-Tag taking place, as stated by Dr. Klaus Vorgang from the Pro Düsseldorf board. For more detailed and authoritative information, it is recommended to check the official Düsseldorf city website or press releases from early 2021 for precise COVID-19 regulations specific to the event.
In typical German COVID-19 guidelines for such events, participants are expected to wear masks, maintain social distance, pre-register or provide contact information, use hand sanitizers, and follow local group size limitations. Participants are also encouraged to participate only if they are symptom-free and healthy.
- Environmental science students, particularly those focused on health-and-wellness, may find the Dreck-weg-Tag an interesting opportunity to contribute to cleaning up waste generated by the increased production of single-use items due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- As the Dreck-weg-Tag event involves a significant emphasis on health-and-wellness, participants are expected to adhere to typical German COVID-19 guidelines, such as wearing masks, maintaining social distance, pre-registering, using hand sanitizers, and following local group size limitations.
