Gaza Foundation Disperses More Than Two Million Food Rations Among Civilians

In the face of an ongoing humanitarian crisis, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has distributed over two million meals to the residents of the Gaza Strip since its recent inception. This equates to over 23,000 food packages, providing much-needed assistance to the nearly 2.1 million people residing in the coastal strip.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, marked by widespread food insecurity and severe challenges in aid delivery. According to recent reports, close to half a million people are in catastrophic conditions of hunger, acute malnutrition, and illness. Nearly three-quarters of Gaza's residents experience severe food deprivation, as classified by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) scale.

These conditions have worsened significantly since March, when Israel imposed a blockade on aid deliveries, resulting in the death of at least 57 children due to malnutrition-related causes. Projections indicate that approximately 71,000 children under five may become acutely malnourished within the next year if the situation persists. The main hurdle to improving these conditions is the continued blockade and restrictions on aid movement, which have severely hampered efforts to supply food and medical supplies.

Despite these challenges, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and other aid groups have been working tirelessly to distribute essential supplies to vulnerable populations. However, access restrictions have caused a decline in the diversity and quantity of food being delivered, exacerbating the nutritional conditions for residents.

To address issues related to sexual abuse and exploitation, aid distribution programs prioritize protection and aim to deliver assistance with dignity and respect. Mechanisms such as the SAWA helpline offer a confidential reporting and support system to address wrongdoing related to aid distribution.

An online Humanitarian Service Directory has been established, providing up-to-date details on aid services, helplines, and key messages for affected people. This initiative aims to improve accountability and information dissemination.

Without immediate and sustained humanitarian access, the situation in the Gaza Strip is expected to deteriorate further, leading to increased suffering and mortality. The international community must take swift action to ensure that aid delivery is not obstructed and that the people of Gaza receive the necessary support to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

  1. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has been focusing on implementing community policies that prioritize food distribution, given the critical food security situation in Gaza.
  2. Acknowledging the health-and-wellness concerns in Gaza, the GHF is also concerned about the severe nutritional challenges faced by the residents and is working towards improving their lifestyle through food-and-drink policies.
  3. In line with scientific principles, the GHF is making efforts to ensure that the aid deliveries address the nutritional needs of the populations, given the acute malnutrition and illness present in Gaza.
  4. Recognizing the general-news headlines and the political implications of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the international community's employment policies need to prioritize aid distribution and alleviate restrictions on humanitarian access.
