Final conviction of Esther for theft offenses - Final Ruling Imposed on Nurse for Committed Theft

A Hamburg-based intensive care nurse has had her conviction for theft, computer fraud, and fraud upheld, following an incident in February 2021. The regional court sentenced the 33-year-old to a prison term of one year and ten months, suspended, after finding her guilty of stealing nearly 1,900 euros from a terminally ill patient.

The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court dismissed the defendant's appeal, deeming it unfounded. The theft occurred when the patient, who had suffered a heart attack and later died in the intensive care unit, was being transported to the hospital's emergency room on a stretcher. While the patient's wallet fell unnoticed, the nurse picked it up and carried it away. Inside the wallet were EC and credit cards, as well as the PIN numbers written on a handwritten note. The defendant then withdrew 1,860 euros.

The victim's wallet was found outside the emergency room, where the nurse had been smoking a cigarette at the time of the theft.

While there are no specific instances of theft cases in hospitals in Hamburg, recent criminality incidents in the city include a 2025 stabbing attack at a train station where at least 12 people were injured. A 39-year-old woman, believed to have acted alone due to possible mental distress, was arrested in connection to the attack [1][3][4]. Another incident involved a 49-year-old Airbus employee who was arrested for stealing nearly one million euros worth of aircraft rivets from an Airbus facility in the Finkenwerder district of Hamburg [2].

This data, while not directly related to the hospital theft case, serves as a broader description of criminality incidents in Hamburg. The focus of the investigation and trial remains on the events surrounding the stolen wallet and the resulting conviction of the nurse involved.

The community policy of Hamburg hospitals may need to address the recent incident involving an intensive care nurse stealing from a patient. This theft, which occurred amidst general-news events like a 2025 stabbing attack and an Airbus employee stealing aircraft rivets, highlights the need for stricter employment policies to prevent such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, science and health-and-wellness news continues elsewhere, unaffected by this crime-and-justice issue.
