In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Helga Kallweit's worry about visiting her husband during the summer holidays has been alleviated. Helga, who does not own a car, has been struggling to visit her husband who is suffering from dementia and resides at the Wiesentrift in Schneverdingen.

The spark for this outpouring of support came when Helga wrote a handwritten letter to the Böhme Newspaper, expressing her despair about not being able to visit her husband as often as she would like due to lack of a car. The newspaper quickly shared Helga's story on their Facebook page, and it has since received nearly 10,000 interactions.

The Regionalmanagement Heidekreis, who manage the Heidekreis Pendlerportal, offering contact mediation for Helga, have been instrumental in connecting her with potential help. Michael Schröder, who works in Schneverdingen, has offered to give Kallweit a ride for free. Ralf Röhrs from Schneverdingen is scheduled for a trial run with Kallweit tomorrow, and he offers not only a ride service but also an exchange of experiences in dealing with the disease.

Nicole Schiel, who works as a geriatric nurse, has offered to combine her commute to work with giving Kallweit a ride. Denise Moldehn suggests a fundraiser for Helga Kallweit, and Tim Patrick Meyer wrote on the Facebook post, "It's really nice to read a Facebook post without stupid comments for a change, and it's damn nice to see that there's still a bit of humanity left."

For those without a car, public transport options are available. Bus line 156 runs between Bispingen and Schneverdingen, with a 15-minute walk to the Wiesentrift. However, it operates only during school days and not on weekends, public holidays, and school holidays. A taxi ride from Bispingen to Schneverdingen and back costs 90 euros. Alternative bus routes include line 150 from Bispingen to Soltau, line 200 to Neuenkirchen, and line 105 to Schneverdingen.

The community member, who is picking up his grandson at the Cooperative Comprehensive School (KGS) in Schneverdingen, has also offered to help Kallweit. Helga's husband is nocturnal and has trouble settling down in the mornings, so the Wiesentrift management emphasizes that there are no restrictions on visiting hours, but the day-night rhythm of the residents should be taken into account.

In a touching gesture, Verena Röhrs' mother-in-law has offered Kallweit the opportunity to visit her husband once a week. Kallweit will travel to Schneverdingen for the first time with a community member on Friday. Nearly 20 people have offered Kallweit a ride, and it's a testament to the power of community support in times of need. Kallweit has already exhausted her savings on taxi rides and overnight stays, but it seems that she will not have to worry about that anymore.
