In the Regensburg district, on Main Street in Mintraching, a 38-year-old man found himself under investigation for driving under the influence (DUI) on July 26, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 12:05 PM, with the man falling from his bicycle.

First responders immediately provided assistance to the fallen cyclist, who sustained slight injuries during the fall. Emergency services were contacted, and the cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The man's apparent intoxication at the time of the fall prompted officers to order a blood test as part of the DUI investigation. The results of the blood test are pending, which will further determine the outcome of the investigation.

The Neutraubling Police Station is conducting the investigation, having dispatched a patrol to the scene of the accident. The zero-tolerance policy for alcohol among young and probationary drivers in Germany means that any detectable alcohol could lead to serious consequences for the man.

Under German law, the legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit for regular drivers is 0.05%. Any BAC above this level is considered a violation. For young and probationary drivers, there is a zero-tolerance policy, meaning any detectable alcohol is illegal.

Penalties for DUI in Germany escalate with repeat offenses. For a first offense, the fine is €500, and the driver's license is suspended for a month. For a second offense, the fine increases to €1,000, and the suspension period extends to three months. A third offense results in a €1,500 fine and a three-month suspension.

More severe penalties apply if the driver is deemed to endanger others or has a BAC of 0.3% or higher, including license revocation, potential imprisonment, and heavy fines. Driving with a BAC over 1.1% is also subject to similar penalties.

In extreme cases, such as very high BAC or accidents, criminal charges and imprisonment are possible. Drivers found under the influence of drugs like cannabis face similar serious consequences, including potential mandatory medical-psychological assessment (MPU) for license reinstatement.

The investigation is ongoing, with the man as the primary suspect. The outcome of the investigation will depend on the results of the blood test and the evidence gathered by the Neutraubling Police Station.

  1. The health-and-wellness of the 38-year-old man is under scrutiny, not only due to the injuries sustained during the accident but also because of the mental-health implications of the DUI investigation he is currently facing.
  2. The general-news of the man's DUI investigation may expand to cover other science-related issues, such as research on the effects of alcohol on bike safety or the impact of zero-tolerance policies on public behavior.
  3. If the man is found guilty of the DUI charge, he may face consequences not only in the crime-and-justice system but also in the health-and-wellness sector, if it is determined that his alcohol consumption negatively affects his mental health.
