In the dynamic world of eGrocery, Bringo, a leading Romanian online shopping platform, has released its 2024 Consumer Trends Report, offering valuable insights into the evolving shopping habits of Romanian consumers. Based on an analysis of over 1.6 million orders, the report sheds light on the growing demand for convenience, local sourcing, and money-saving behaviours.

One of the most notable trends is the preference for local products, with 53% of Romanian consumers prioritising local food purchases, showing strong support for domestic suppliers. This trend aligns with a broader emphasis on cost-saving strategies such as using leftovers and seeking promotions.

Another significant finding is the increased demand for convenience-driven purchases. As urban lifestyles with time constraints become more prevalent, Romanian shoppers are gravitating towards ready-to-eat and ready-to-heat options, mirroring a broader convenience culture seen in Eastern Europe.

Money-saving habits also play a crucial role in Romanian consumers' shopping decisions. The report reveals that 80% of Bringo shopping carts contained at least one discounted product, and Saturday remains the busiest delivery day, while Monday and Tuesday see the lowest order volumes, suggesting that consumers are adopting a more strategic approach to online shopping, choosing discounted products more frequently and planning purchases to maximise savings.

The most popular categories on Bringo in 2024 were fresh food, household essentials, and pharmaceuticals. Water, bread, bananas, eggs, milk, tomatoes, and cucumbers were the most ordered products, followed closely by carbonated beverages and citrus fruits.

Bringo's online shopping experience promotes mindful and sustainable consumption. The platform's deposit-return system, SGR, has seen notable success in Bucharest, Iași, and Brașov, with these cities standing out as top locations for packaging collection.

Bringo LifeINDEX, the platform's consumer behaviour indicator, provides insights into trends and preferences in everyday shopping on Bringo. According to Bringo LifeINDEX, Bringo's app prices match those in physical stores, making it a convenient and cost-effective choice for shoppers.

Health-conscious categories, such as organic, sugar-free, and gluten-free products, are growing in popularity on Bringo. There was a 10% increase in gluten-free products and a 20% increase in sugar-free products compared to 2023. On average, each Bringo order contains 19 products.

Saturday continues to be the busiest shopping day on Bringo, indicating a recurring and organised shopping behaviour. December 23 was the busiest shopping day of the year on Bringo, with a peak of nearly 8,500 orders delivered. Every day, Bringo's personal shoppers deliver an average of 4,500 orders across 35+ cities nationwide.

The average shopping cart value on Bringo is 300 RON. Bucharest, Iași, and Cluj lead the rankings for the most Bringo orders.

Modern retail sectors in Romania are expanding eGrocery capabilities, including frozen and premium options, aligning with regional developments in convenience and health-focused products. This emerging innovation in retail is sure to shape the future of eGrocery in Romania, offering consumers an even wider range of choices and convenience.
