County-wide Presence of Community Sisters Expanded
Freshening Up the Neighborhood: Community Nurse Expansion in Neuwied
It's 2025, and the elderly in Neuwied district have some fantastic news! The much-loved state program 'Community Nurse' is set for an expansion this year. This program, implemented since 2015, has been instrumental in helping the elderly live independently in their homes for as long as possible. Distriktspräsident (District Administrator) Achim Hallerbach has championed for this cause in district committees and discussions with the municipal associations and the city of Neuwied.
As of January 1, 2025, Birgit Boos has joined the district as a 'Community Nurse' dedicated to supporting non-care-dependent older adults across the district. Increase in the workforce is in the pipeline – 2.5 positions for preventative work are planned. The Rhineland-Palatinate state will cover personnel costs for 1.5 positions.
The expansion wouldn't have been possible without a recent collaborative agreement between all municipal associations, the city of Neuwied, and the Neuwied district. The remaining costs after the state subsidy will be shared by the municipal associations, the city of Neuwied, and the Neuwied district.
Ecstatic about the joint agreement and the shared commitment to the program's success, Distriktspräsident Hallerbach welcomed this change as a step towards strengthening social infrastructure. The mayors of the municipal associations were equally enthusiastic, acknowledging the swift implementation to benefit those in need.
Birgit Boos, the 'Community Nurse,' has already made home visits in places she wasn't responsible for previously. She shared that her primary focus is addressing loneliness and providing an empathetic ear for the seniors. If necessary help is needed, she connects the seniors with care support points in the Neuwied district.
Philipp Rasbach, First District Administrator, urges the elderly to utilize this service as the preventive home visit is essential for maintaining security, independence, and promoting health. He notes that the more elderly people they can reach with this service, the better.
The objective of the 'Community Nurse' program is to provide advice and support to older individuals who aren't in need of care but may require occasional assistance. The neutral and free advice provided by the professionals helps older people navigate the challenges of aging.
