The CDU, a German political party, has brought forth a new concept to address the issue of foreign medical students leaving the country shortly after graduation. Their plan involves keeping these skilled graduates within Germany by either requiring them to serve in rural areas for at least five years or repay the costs associated with their top-notch education.
Sepp Müller, deputy chairman of the CDU faction, shared these sentiments with the "Bild" newspaper, stating, "Those who study here should practice in rural areas for at least five years. Those who aren't keen don't get a pass on paying back the costs for this superior education."
Tino Sorge, state secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health, also advocated for Germany to retain these highly skilled medical professionals, urging to, "win young doctors over to work in Germany instead of watching them fly off."
Florian Müller, research policy spokesman for the Union faction, addressed the fact that each medical student's place comes at a significant cost. He suggested that the federal states should establish their repayment policies for study costs to ensure that international talents stay in Germany post-university.

However, it is worth noting that a recent proposal by the CDU pertains to international medical students: they must either work in Germany for a minimum of five years post-graduation or refund the education costs if they fail to comply. This proposal is part of a broader discourse concerning the obligations of international students post-graduation in Germany. (References: ntv.de, ino/dpa)
