Leipzig, Germany - The trade union Verdi has announced a 36-hour warning strike starting on Thursday, affecting several institutions in the city, including the University Hospital, University of Applied Sciences, Economics, and Culture Leipzig, and the State Directorate. The strike is related to issues under the local wage agreement.

Sebastian Viecenz, the district manager for Verdi in Leipzig-Nordsachsen, has confirmed the strike's schedule. However, the exact impact of the strike on these institutions, particularly the University Hospital, is not yet predictable.

During the strike, staff shortages may occur at the University Hospital, but care will continue to be guaranteed. In case of an emergency, the warning strike will be suspended or interrupted.

The strike is a precursor to further action, indicating it might be a sign of continued labour disputes. Viecenz stated that it is not foreseeable where or when the strike's effects will be most pronounced.

The facilities of the State Directorate are also participating in the strike, and all the mentioned institutions are expected to participate. It's important to note that the strike is not limited to a specific industry or sector, as it involves multiple institutions.

This is not the first time Verdi has organised a strike in Germany. Previous strikes by unions like Verdi have led to temporary disruptions in services due to reduced staffing. However, these strikes are often short-term and designed to send a message to management or governmental bodies about workers' demands, such as better pay or working conditions.

Without specific details about a strike at University Hospital Leipzig, it's difficult to assess the exact impact on staffing and services. The situation at the University Hospital during the strike will resemble Sundays and public holidays.

The strike is expected to involve employees who fall under the local wage agreement. It's recommended that those affected by the strike plan accordingly and seek alternative arrangements if necessary.
