Colleague Silvia Marx passed away on April 24, 2024.

A Worthy Abode, Thou Lord of Armies! My soul yearns for the courts of the Lord.My heart and flesh, they rejoice before the living God.Ps 84,2-3

We bid farewell to our esteemed colleague and dear friend Silvia Marx (née Busch), who passed away on April 24, 2024, after a long and arduous battle with illness.

"Born on July 10, 1957, in Zeitz, Silvia grew up alongside her brother Roland in Droyßig. She attended POS and then learned the profession of a medical assistant at the medical school in Merseburg, working in the Timezer Poliklinik for several years. Inherent kindness and compassion guided her to a career in the church, inspired by her passion for service. In 1982, she enrolled in the Magdeburg Seelsorgehelferinnen-Seminar, beginning her journey as a pastoral care provider. Her close-knit circle of friends from her studies remained a constant source of support throughout her life.*

Her first role was in the Pfarrei Oschersleben, where she stayed until 1986, before moving to Pfarrei Herzberg (Elster). It was here she wed her late husband Joachim in 1992, bringing his twelve-year-old daughter Marlen into their family. With the formation of the Gemeindeverbund Bad Liebenwerda in 2006 and the establishment of the new Pfarrei Bad Liebenwerda in 2010, Silvia's service area expanded significantly, yet Herzberg remained her faithful parish.

Community-minded and deeply empathetic, Silvia forged strong, personal connections within the village. She was a steadfast friend to many colleagues and nurtured a large, caring support network.

Known for her unwavering dedication, Silvia was neither a seeker of the limelight nor one to boast of her accomplishments. Her humility and grace in adversity made her an inspiration to all.

Gifted with an empathetic spirit, Silvia possessed a keen ability to understand and support those in need. In 1998, she trained as a Deathbed Companion, further deepening her expertise in bereavement care through a Hospice training program in 2006. Her work as a comforting presence during challenging life stages, particularly in one's final years, brought solace to countless individuals.

A lover of nature, Silvia derived a sense of peace and tranquility from its beauty. Gardening and long walks through the countryside brought her endless joy.

In the autumn of 2022, Silvia received a grave cancer diagnosis. In the face of adversity, she faced her illness with fortitude, choosing to forego treatment. After a surprisingly long battle with her condition, she peacefully passed away on April 24, 2024, in the Hospice in Torgau.

Now, dearest Silvia, may God bless you with eternal life.
