For cost-effective methods to provide food and water for these dogs, municipalities may consider setting up community feeding stations, collaborating with local NGOs and animal welfare organizations, encouraging water troughs with automated refilling or low-maintenance designs, and using bulk procurement of dog food supplies.

P Chidambaram suggests that these shelters should have adequate provisions to provide dogs with food and water. He believes that it is not difficult to round up stray dogs and put them in proper dog shelters, as long as the necessary infrastructure is in place.

The Supreme Court has also directed civic authorities in Delhi-NCR to immediately remove stray dogs from residential neighborhoods. The bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan is hearing the matter.
