"Celebrate World Alzheimer's Day 2025: city and district extend an invitation for 'Dementia - Maintaining Humanity,' an event"
On Thursday, September 23, 2025, the City of Halle (Saale) and the Saalekreis District will host an informative day titled 'Dementia - Being Human and Staying Human' at the Neustadt Centrum Halle, Neustaedter Passage 17d.
The event aims to raise awareness about dementia, a disease that causes growing loss of cognitive abilities, and encourage people to approach the diagnosis with consciousness and understanding.
The Deputy Mayor for Education and Social Affairs of the City of Halle (Saale), Katharina Brederlow, will be involved in the event. Various organisations, including the Local Participation Management, the Guardianship Authorities, and the Social Psychiatric Services (SpDi), will be present to provide information and support.
Lectures on 'Understanding and Accompanying Dementia' are scheduled at 10 am, 11 am, 2 pm, and 4 pm. These lectures are intended to help relatives cope with the emotional challenges of dealing with dementia.
Visitors can expect a wide range of information booths and lectures. The Social Psychiatric Services (SpDi) will present their counseling and support services, while 'Cursus' will offer practical and free care courses. The local three specialist clinics - Clinic for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Medicine of the Carl-von-Basedow Clinic Saalekreis, Clinic and Polyclinic for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatic Medicine of the University Medicine Halle (Saale), and the AWO Psychiatry Center Halle - will inform about diagnostics and treatment options.
The Consumer Center Saxony-Anhalt will focus on care law information, while the Paul-Riebeck Foundation and the Foundation of the Volkssolidaritaet Halle will present their offers from ambulatory to full-time care. The Alzheimer's Association Saxony-Anhalt e.V. will provide advice on offers for people with dementia and their relatives.
The Saalekreis Sports Association will provide information on offers for movement support, and the Stadtinsel e.V. association and the Self-Help Contact Point Halle-Saalekreis will offer counseling services and information on self-help groups.
According to current calculations by the Federal Statistical Office, around 1.84 million people in Germany are currently living with a dementia disease. In Saxony-Anhalt, the proportion of people over 65 with dementia is over 2.4 percent, which is above the national average.
World Alzheimer's Day has been held annually on September 21st since 1994. This event is part of an international effort to raise awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding dementia.
Numerous partner organisations of the GPV-PSAG Halle/Saalekreis will provide advice and information at the booths. The event is open to visitors who can expect a day filled with valuable information and support.
The City of Halle (Saale) and the Saalekreis District invite everyone to attend this important event and learn more about dementia, how to support those affected, and how to stay human and stay connected in the face of this challenging disease.
