A Devastating Blow: Gaza's Last Cancer Treatment Clinic Temporarily Shutdown
Cancer treatment hospital in Gaza Strip shuts down operations - Cancer facility in Gaza shuts down, leaving no treatment center for patients in the region
Get ready to hear some hard truths, mate. Right now, things ain't lookin' great in the Gaza Strip when it comes to cancer treatment. Here's the lowdown on this heartbreaking situation.
Following a brutal Israeli military attack on May 13, 2025, the Gaza European Hospital, the lone beacon of hope for cancer patients in the area, took a severe beating and was left inaccessible. According to WHO director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, a strike nearby the evacuation mission just preceded the attack. He's quick to remind us that health facilities should stay the hell away from the conflict zone—they should never be militarized or attacked.
The humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders, underlines the significance of the Gaza European Hospital's closure. This hospital was one of the last remaining outposts of care for the health system in ruins of the Gaza Strip. Presently, the Nasser Hospital is the only functioning clinic left in Khan Younis, but it too has suffered its fair share of attacks, with the latest taking place just hours prior to the fateful bombing of the European Hospital.
Since Israel kicked off its relentless attacks on March 18, after a two-month ceasefire, it's not been all flowers and sunshine. To make matters worse, they've been blocking humanitarian aid shipments to the Gaza Strip since early May.
