AOK Regensburg Fights Skin Cancer with UV Awareness Campaign
The AOK Regensburg branch, in collaboration with regional partners, is taking a proactive stance against the increasing risk of skin cancer by raising awareness about the importance of sun protection, especially in the face of climate change.
The campaign, led by Dr. Simone Eckert, managing director of the Gesundheitsregionplus for the city and district of Regensburg, aims to educate the public about the dangers of UV radiation. A key initiative is the installation of a UV index sign at the Westbad in Regensburg. This sign will provide daily updates on the expected peak value of sunburn-effective UV radiation, helping locals assess the radiation load and adjust their behaviour accordingly.
To complement this, a joint information stand offers practical tips on dealing with summer, sun, and heat. Visitors can also pick up free sunscreens, water bottles, and rubber ducks, encouraging them to stay protected and hydrated. The stand emphasises the importance of staying in the shade, wearing hats with wide brims, and using sunglasses, all of which can reduce UV radiation by at least 50 percent.
The AOK Regensburg and Gesundheitsregionplus Regensburg are working together to raise awareness about the increasing risk of skin cancer due to climate change. By providing real-time UV information and practical sun protection advice, they hope to empower locals to take necessary precautions and stay safe under the sun.
