Alleged Perpetrator of 1990's Schöneberg Stabbing Case Remains at Large After Two Decades

A man is currently on trial in Berlin for the attempted manslaughter of a woman, a crime that allegedly occurred outside the University of the Arts in 2005.

According to the investigation, Mustafa "Muco" Ö, then 28 years old, was jobless and reliant on benefits. He had planned to marry, but the bride unexpectedly called off their nuptials. Suspecting a 18-year-old as a rival, he arranged to meet the Syrian on Grunewaldstraße, outside the University of the Arts, on the evening of September 5th. Both men brought their friends. After the encounter, both men were left half-dead in the hospital with stab wounds.

The indictment for the crime was ready on August 30, 2007. Mustafa "Muco" Ö was charged with attempted manslaughter for the two stab wounds to the upper body of his rival. However, the suspect vanished, and Turkey refused extradition of its citizen. For years, the case remained inactive.

Fast-forward to February 2025, "Muco" was imprisoned in a German prison for drug trafficking, with an ongoing trial. The cold case resurfaced, and Mustafa "Muco" Ö faced trial for the 20-year-old crime. By this time, he was already married and divorced from the desired bride.

During the trial, "Muco" maintained a downcast and silent demeanor, as did the other men involved in the incident. They were permitted to maintain silence, as witnesses are not legally obligated to incriminate themselves. One of the men had stood trial for the stab wound inflicted on "Muco" and was acquitted.

The verdict in this case is scheduled for June 11. The outcome remains to be seen. Although no recent updates about the trial's progress are available at this time, the German court records or reputable German news outlets may provide further details.

Science may delve into the psychological reasons behind Mustafa "Muco" Ö's alleged actions, offering insights into the intersections of stress, anger, and violence in health-and-wellness research. General-news outlets might also cover the trial's updates, positioning it as an example of Germany's crime-and-justice system working to resolve long-standing cases.
